Telkom bolsters data aspirations

Johannesburg, 03 Feb 2010

Telkom has made two top-level appointments in its centre operation, Cybernest.

Telkom's centre operation was launched in November last year, and will now be bolstered with the addition of Grant Morgan and Althon Beukes as managing executives in the business unit.

Pierre Marais, acting MD of Cybernest, says “The two individuals were identified after an extensive talent search to lead Cybernest into the exciting future of centre operations in SA and beyond.”

Morgan, currently a general manager for data centre and storage solutions at Dimension Data, will assume the role of managing executive of Cybernest marketing and sales from March.

Beukes, a Telkom executive for infrastructure and hosting services, becomes the managing executive for Cybernest operations with immediate effect.

Key players

Telkom says Morgan has played a key role in pioneering Dimension Data within the data centre environment in SA. “He has developed an excellent track record within this field and is synonymous to this arena, having presented at several seminars about data centres,” says Marais.

Morgan has a BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering, from the University of Witwatersrand, and is completing his MBA, from the Wits Business School.

Beukes joined Telkom in 1996 as a senior manager in technology integration. He became executive for infrastructure and hosting services in 2004.

“Althon [Beukes] played a leading role in planning, building and operating Telkom's data centre operations, including the new Belville Centre, in the days leading up to the establishment of Cybernest as a separate business unit,” says Marais.

Beukes has a BSc degree in Computer Science, from the University of the Western Cape, and completed an Executive Development Programme in 2004.

“I welcome both these individuals into their new positions at Cybernest. I am certain they have the ability and capability to deliver the growth, value and market share that is incumbent on Cybernest to deliver to the Telkom Group,” says Marais.
