Government's proposals in terms of the future of Telkom are expected to come to light at a post Cabinet media briefing tomorrow morning.
This follows the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, which the market expected would yield three options for Telkom going forward, after an inter-ministerial committee, led by communications minister Dina Pule, pondered several possibilities.
Pule could not previously disclose which three options would be presented. This afternoon the Department of Communications (DOC) released a statement reiterating that the minister is unable to provide additional comment at this stage.
The inter-ministerial committee was set up last month to investigate possible options for Telkom, after Cabinet jettisoned a deal between Telkom and KT Corporation in June. The deal would have seen the telecommunications company issuing 20% more shares to gain about R3.3 billion, about a tenth of its annual revenue.
The DOC could not confirm the crux of tomorrow's post Cabinet briefing, but said "the options for Telkom are following the Cabinet processes.
"The government is committed to finding the most suitable and long-term solution that will ensure that Telkom is sustainable and is able to contribute meaningfully to the country's infrastructure rollout programme."
