Telkom has announced the appointment of two executives: Wally Beelders as chief marketing and sales executive and Charlotte Mokoena as the group executive, human resources.
According to the Telkom statement, the two appointments are in line with steering the company towards its new direction as a leading customer and employee centric ICT solutions provider.
Beelders and Mokoena were first appointed to their positions in an acting capacity following the suspension of former chief of sales and marketing Pinky Moholi and head of human resources Oupa Magashula.
Ian Timmerman was also appointed to fill the position of sales and marketing executive formerly held by Belinda Williams, as an interim measure.
At the time of the suspension, Telkom spokesperson Lulu Letlape said an internal enquiry would take place with regard to the three suspended executives and that Telkom would communicate the results of the enquiry at its completion. Later, at the company`s AGM on 14 November, CEO Papi Molotsane announced that the situation had been resolved and Telkom and the three executives had parted "amicably".
Speculation in the ICT industry has centred on the reasons for the initial suspension as well as the terms of the amicable parting. However, Telkom has consistently refused to discuss the issue, saying that it falls within confidential employer/employee relations.
In a statement announcing the appointment, Molotsane says he is confident that Beelders and Mokoena have the ability to steer Telkom in its new vision.
Beelders has been working for Telkom for 28 years. Prior to this, he held the position of managing executive for corporate and global markets.
Mokoena joined Telkom in 2002 and previously held the position of group executive for Telkom`s Centre for learning and organisational capacity.
