Telkom executives will fly the Proudly South African flag at the announcement of the 2010 World Cup bid in Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday.
Nombulelo Moholi, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer; Mandla Ngcobo, Group Executive of Legal Services; and Zikie Molusi, Executive of Advertising and Promotions, leave Johannesburg tonight in the quest to bring the world`s biggest sporting event to SA in 2010, along with a high-powered government and business delegation and the hopes of millions back home.
Moholi said: "Telkom asserts its belief and pride in all things South African. Telkom has always been a great supporter of soccer and has every intention to be involved with the bid past Saturday`s decision by FIFA and right through until 2010."
Telkom and Vodacom, Telkom`s mobile communications joint venture, are primary sponsors of SA`s 2010 bid.
"Both companies are confident that football`s greatest showpiece, the FIFA World Cup, will make its debut in football crazy SA," Moholi added.
Telkom has the technological infrastructure and capabilities to run the event in a secure, efficient IT environment and has already made presentations to the FIFA Bid Committee.
Telkom is a firm supporter of football. The Telkom Charity Cup is a premier league soccer event that benefits a substantial number of charities that work with children, the aged, the infirm and the disabled.
