Telkom has completed the national roll-out of its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, giving corporate customers the competitive-edge in the rapid turnaround enterprise environment.
Opening Futurex in Sandton today, Randall Seidl, Telkom`s Managing Executive for Corporate, Key and Global Markets, said with roll-out complete, Telkom`s technology now enables customers to run applications - including multimedia traffic - in a secure environment backed by service level guarantees on performance and service availability.
Telkom`s solution, called VPN Supreme, is a Cisco Powered Network certified solution based on a carrier class broadband IP network. VPN Supreme offers end-to-end integrated IP-VPN solutions with quality of service, based on MPLS.
``Telkom`s MPLS solution offers customers flexibility in their networks to prioritise applications, including the ability to integrate voice and video applications. Telkom`s substantial investment in its network over the past six years is now paying dividends as customers are able to run high-level applications at high speeds, on carrier-class platforms and with advanced functionality,`` Seidl said.
The solution includes network management and router equipment, making it a unique offering to customers due to no capital investment required.
Telkom`s solutions in the enterprise space allow customers to concentrate on their core business while Telkom takes care of managing business applications requirements. Many major South African corporates - including Southern Sun and Foschini - have deployed a VPN Supreme solution.
Seidl said Telkom is a big player in the convergence arena. Through VPN Supreme, Telkom is providing an integrated offering for voice, video and data applications with end-to-end quality of service.
``Telkom caters for companies who operate increasingly in the e-business age. Customers, for example, can now view data in a real-time environment, giving them a dynamic picture of the business and its strategic needs at any given time," Seidl said.
Telkom is showcasing TelkomInternet powered by ISDN, ADSL and satellite, and direct Internet, security and hosting services at Futurex. The event is a natural evolution of Computer Faire, SA`s leading IT exhibition for 35 years, and Tel.com, Africa`s international telecommunications exhibition. Futurex has achieved a 60%/40% split between IT and telecoms companies respectively, reflecting the trend towards convergence.
