Telkom today launched two Internet Protocol (IP)-based business products that provide flexible and cost-effective networking solutions and meet secure intranet, extranet and remote access requirements.
ViP Dial and ViP Link are the latest products in the Telkom Data Network stable, providing alternative business networking solutions that offer higher levels of security and reliability than the Internet which is vulnerable to hacking and congestion.
ViPDial is a secure public dialup networking solution to interconnect remote or mobile users to a centralised site. Using IP with secure tunnelling as the backbone, a company`s analogue and ISDN dialup users - including customers and business partners - can use the solution to connect to their network for the cost of a local call from anywhere in SA.
"The solution includes a flat rate connection from the Telkom ViPDial network to the main site to receive the dial-up connections. Since it is a shared network, ViPDial offers considerable cost saving advantages, reducing network and dial-up costs by as much as 40%," says Telkom`s Product Development Executive, Steven White.
"There are also the benefits of staff mobility and easy customer access, which lends itself to improved service and streamlined sharing of information," adds White.
The other new product - ViPLink - is a virtual private network (VPN) solution that allows companies to connect their branches, business partners and customers to a shared IP network using permanent leased line connectivity.
ViPLink has secure tunnelling offering the benefits of security, network reliability and availability. Each customer`s service leverages the shared infrastructure provided by the Telkom network, reducing business network costs by diminishing the need for dedicated hardware and software components.
"This solution is suitable for customers who need leased line connections for as few as two sites to over 1 000 sites. It includes the provision of terminating devices, with configuration and maintenance options. On top of this, ViPLink also has options for proactive management and network utilisation and performance reports," explains Steven White.
"Again there are significant cost savings possible through ViPLink, as it provides flat rate network access prices and is distance independent. Bandwidth guarantees with this solution are lower, which translates into higher savings," he says.
White adds: "With Telkom as the network provider, ViPDial and ViPLink customers are assured of single, end-to-end networking accountability, which leads to reduced and controlled operating expenses."
