Telkom Internet customers will get free anytime data for certain social networking services, and free data between midnight and 6am daily as part of a new promotion announced by the company today.
In addition to this, says Telkom, the capacity of all Telkom Internet packages of 5GB or more will be doubled at no additional charge.
"[Effective immediately] Telkom Internet will enhance its SoftCap 5GB and higher offerings to include free specific social networking and the Night Surfer." The offer is is available until 31 March.
"Customers will be able to use the full functionality of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, 24 hours a day, without incurring costs from their in-bundle data.
Customers can also make use of the instant messaging chat clients on WhatsApp, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and Google Talk without incurring additional charges."
Telkom says however, the offer does not extend to video streaming such as YouTube videos or links to other Web sites via these platforms. "Once your SoftCap limit is reached the social networking services and night surfer will also be subject to SoftCap"
MD of Telkom's consumer retail services division Manelisa Mavuso says free data access to social networking is a "game-changer" in that it gives customers the ability to stay in touch for free via their preferred online platform.
As for the double capacity for customers on 5GB or more Internet packages, Telkom says the promotion - also valid from now until the end of March next year - is not applicable to those on 1GB packages, unless they upgrade to a 5GB or more package.
