Grintek Telecom, a telecommunication network solution provider, has been selected by Telkom South Africa Limited to provide fixed wireless access telecommunications services throughout SA.
Under the supply agreement, Grintek Telecom, regional distributor of InnoWave, will deploy InnoWave's flagship MultiGain Wireless (MGW) fixed wireless access system across SA.
Wireless local loop (WLL) is particularly beneficial to countries with emerging economies, where a large part of the population do not have access to any sort of telecommunications systems. WLL provides an efficient way to deploy these services without having to utilise tons of copper wire.
"MGW offers a solution to the escalating demand for telecommunications," explains Srini Moodley, Grintek Telecom new business development manager for WLL. "By utilising radio links as a substitute for copper lines, for all or part of the connection between the subscriber and the switch, the result is that there is a rapid deployment of quality services with a minimal initial investment."
"We selected the MGW system as a wireless solution for the upgrading of the Telkom access network, to help meet service level obligations set by the government rollout targets, as well as to offer advanced telecommunications services via wireless to our subscribers," says Telkom SA's project manager, Andrew Groves.
Telkom SA conducted a stringent evaluation and approval process of the MGW system.
"We are looking forward to implementing this project," Moodley says. "We are confident our relationship with Telkom SA will grow as we offer more flexible access solutions."
InnoWave's MultiGain Wireless solution supports a wide range of frequency bands ranging from 1.5GHz to 3.8GHz. MGW offers the benefits of reduced interference through Frequency Hopping, where a data signal is modulated with a carrier signal that 'hops' from frequency to frequency, and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) power control, which accurately tracks the power required, thereby reducing the overall transmission power and increasing the capacity. This technology meets the specific requirements of radio in the WLL. The InnoWave MGW system supports toll quality voice, high-speed voice band data and Integrated Services Digital Network - Basic Rate Interface (ISDN-BRI).
