Telkom says services - including , contact centres and services - are back up and running after a period of downtime today.

Telkom says its Centurion data centre experienced a network switch failure early this morning, which had an impact on a number of Telkom online services.

As a result of the failure, Internet and other online services were impacted and Telkom customer contact centres and shops were temporarily offline.

Customers were not able to complete Telkom transactions, including airtime and top-up purchases, and bank payment transactions.

At around 2:20pm, Telkom sent out a statement saying the network switch failure had been repaired and service to customers fully restored.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this interruption has caused our customers."

At about 1pm, Jacqui O'Sullivan, head of group communication and PR at Telkom, said the company had prioritised the issue for urgent resolution.

"We apologise for the inconvenience our customers will be experiencing. We understand this is a frustrating situation," said O'Sullivan earlier.
