Long-time Telkom senior specialist, media relations, Andrew Weldrick, has been found dead at his home in Centurion, Pretoria.
Initial reports state that Weldrick`s colleagues found his body on the couch in his lounge around 2pm yesterday, after he failed to arrive at work in the morning. He appeared to have died of natural causes, but an autopsy has still to be carried out, the police told the media.
Weldrick (38) grew up in the Eastern Cape and studied journalism at Rhodes University, and has worked at Telkom for over 10 years.
He was respected in the telecommunications industry and media. He was known to be hard-working, level-headed and efficient. "He was very bright, a very nice guy and got things done quietly and calmly," says a friend.
Hans van den Groenendaal, senior corporate communications specialist at Telkom, said today that the company is devastated by the loss. "It is a great loss to his colleagues, both personally and professionally." He said condolences are pouring in.
Weldrick leaves a wife and three children.
