Telkom to conduct enquiry

Johannesburg, 20 Sep 2005

Telkom says the reason three top executives have taken a leave of absence is so the company can conduct an internal enquiry.

The statement follows speculation about whether three senior executives have been suspended or not.

Telkom`s head of corporate communications Lulu Letlape, would not discuss the reasons for the enquiry involving sales and marketing executive Belinda Williams, chief of sales and marketing Pinky Moholi and head of human resources Oupa Magashula.

"We must respect the confidential relationship with employees," Letlape says. She says it is difficult to tell how long the enquiry will be and the company will follow normal employee enquiry processes.

Letlape also insists that the appointment of executives Wally Beelders, Charlotte Mokoena and Ian Timmerman is an interim measure and Telkom will communicate its final position with regard to the leadership gap when the results of the investigation are communicated.

She says the company`s succession plan would allow it to carry on as well as any company with such a plan.

"There are 32 000 individuals in the company who have all contributed to the profits of the company," she says.
