Telkom to integrate Intekom subsidiary

On 1 April 2001, Telkom will integrate its wholly-owned subsidiary, Intekom, into its operations as an essential part of its new e-business strategy.

Telkom is currently rationalising its e-business activities, including all aspects of the Internet. As an industry leader and important asset, Intekom is fundamental to Telkom`s current and future endeavours, and the integration will harness synergies between the two companies.

Intekom is the third-largest ISP in South Africa and is the fourth largest player in the business arena, and has experienced strong growth in revenue.

"For Intekom`s customers, the integration will be seamless. These customers will continue to enjoy the same level of service features and benefits as they have experienced, and the integration will not change anything regarding domains, URLs or logins," said Telkom eBusiness Marketing Executive, Rikus Matthyser.

"Each brand is successfully situated in the marketplace, and both will continue to co-exist as distinct brands. We will harness the synergies of both brands including product sets and value propositions as we consolidate core assets surrounding eBusiness initiatives ," said Matthyser.

He said Intekom was currently consulting with its employees regarding the integration, and that every effort would be made to ensure a smooth transition.

"We have adopted a responsible approach and are using a redeployment strategy. Staff from Intekom will be transferred to Telkom, depending on its operational requirements."
