Telkom has urged its customers to be patient as technicians are working around the clock to restore a critical business system that went down on Monday, affecting customer-facing operations.
"The system is a lot more stable now. We anticipate swift resolution to the problem as the system`s performance has improved during the course of today," says Ravin Maharaj, Telkom`s media relations specialist.
"Telkom`s help-desk computers were offline since Monday morning, following their system upgrade over the past weekend.
"Telkom has been experiencing response problems with the system, which controls call centre and customer service branch operations. Some customers, for example, have not been able to buy new services or request relocation applications when they phone into a call centre or visit a customer service branch."
Maharaj cannot say how many customers have been affected by the problem, but assures customers that Telkom has "taken necessary corrective action to solve the technical glitch".
"It`s difficult to say when our customer service operation will be completely resolved, but Telkom is working with expert suppliers, both local and international, to restore critical services that impact customers, and find the root cause of the problem," says Maharaj.
