Telkom`s e-billing draws subscribers

Johannesburg, 07 Nov 2005

Two of SA`s mobile service providers launched their versions of the interactive e‑mail bill this year, while Telkom claims it has been providing an interactive online billing facility for two years, with subscriber numbers showing adequate interest.

Like its mobile competitors, the Telkom e-bill can be sorted according to most expensive calls or most frequently dialled numbers, enabling users to track spending habits.

"Telkom`s e-billing service has allowed corporate and private users to manage and pay their accounts online for quite some time now, with about 900 corporate and over 100 000 private subscribers," says Lulu Letlape, corporate communications group executive, Telkom.

Although the e-bill allows payment by credit card only, Telkom`s Web site claims plans for other methods of payment are being reviewed.

Unlike Cell C and Vodacom, Telkom developed its online e-billing system completely in-house, but was unwilling to disclose the reasons for this decision.

The e-billing system has resulted in significant cost savings, even though the company will continue sending paper bills by post, says Telkom.
