Telspace Systems joins ITWeb at Security Summit

Telspace Systems has been involved with ITWeb's Security Summit since its inception in 2005, either as a speaker, sponsor, or exhibitor.

The company has presented talks on topics, such as Bluetooth hacking, to local and international delegates, and was involved in a very successful charity drive for renowned computer security expert Johnny Long's (j0hnnyhax) Hackers For Charity initiative. This year, Telspace Systems will be attending the summit as a sponsor.

"Attending the event helps us stay up-to-date with the local IT security community and get in touch with our customers face-to-face," says Dino Covotsos, CEO of Telspace Systems. "It also always gives us the opportunity to discuss industry issues and solutions in-depth, which helps us better figure out what our clients want from us on a service level."

This year's summit is taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre between 27 and 29 May, and it will be ITWeb's ninth annual Security Summit.

"It has never been more important to create information security awareness," says Dimitri Fousekis, security analyst and team lead at Telspace Systems. "Over the last year, there has been an increase in financial security breaches, backdoors and other 'spying' tactics, as well as malware and ransomware."

According to Fousekis, cyber crime has evolved over the last few years. "Cyber criminals used to be driven by either notoriety or financial gain. Today, their motives include hactivism, vengeful acts against government and corporates, as well as uncovering and publicising espionage plots and monitoring tactics."

Furthermore, as the use of mobile devices and cloud computing become even more mainstream, so too will the threats associated with these technologies.

These new factors contribute to a larger and more dangerous threat landscape than ever before, Fousekis explains. "Although it is human nature to be reactive against threats, it is becoming crucial for countries, companies and individuals to take a proactive approach against the increasing cyber criminal attack vectors."

ITWeb's annual Security Summit is the ideal platform in which to explore and learn about proactive security approaches. "This event is key for anyone looking to maintain the security of their technology investments, both now and in the future," says Covotsos.
