Temenos tops $150m in new contracts in 2000

Johannesburg, 12 Apr 2001

Temenos, the global vendor of integrated software partly owned by JSE-listed Global Technology, has completed the most successful year in its history with 56 new contracts for its Globus software in 2000. The value of the new contracts signed last year topped $150 million. Among these new contracts was the of England.

During the same period, 24 new clients went live with Globus; the company added 400 employees, five distributors and opened seven new offices. Ray Leonard, CEO of Global Technology, says other key contracts in 2000 included China Construction Bank, ING Asia, Bank of Queensland, Bank Boston International (a Fleet Bank subsidiary), and the Arab Banking Corporation (Tunisia). In addition, the company expanded its contracts with existing customers including Merrill Lynch Bank and Trust, Banco Santander, National Bank of Greece, and European Financial Group.

"Temenos`s integrated approach to international banking systems continues to be validated by the market," says Leonard. "Financial institutions worldwide are adopting Globus to help them expand their operations and increase market share. "We`ve enjoyed similar success in South Africa, the rest of Africa and Australia," adds Leonard, "and we expect to see Globus take market share across these territories.

Globus`s success has been a major factor in the growth of our banking division." The year included the announcement of a global e-business alliance between Temenos and IBM jointly to market Globus`s solutions for wealth management and private banking, and the porting of Globus to an extended range of IBM server and software offerings, including the System 390. Globus is an integrated, modular international banking system with full functionality, including retail and wholesale banking, trade finance, and treasury modules. It supports multi-company and multi-bank environments and is global in scope, incorporating multi-currency and multilingual capabilities. In addition, Globus contains robust risk management and security features that provide a flexible environment while allowing institutions to have complete control over their financial systems.
