Teraco maintains its 100% uptime during Cape fire

Johannesburg, 09 Mar 2015

While it was business as usual for Teraco, Africa's only vendor-neutral data centre, the fire that broke out in the Great Westerford building did result in damage to the roof and third floor, and a temporary cut in council power.

"The power cut did not, however, impact Teraco or any of its clients, with 100% uptime maintained via resilient UPS and generator backup power," says Lex Van Wyk, Teraco CEO.

He says thanks to swift and efficient action from Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service, the fire damage was limited and the council restored power to the building just after 1pm on Thursday.

"Teraco is located on the ground floor and in the basement, and as a result, did not suffer any damage. Access to the roof is still restricted until the fire department investigations are concluded," says Van Wyk.

Teraco would like to thank the Cape Fire and Rescue Service for its immediate action, which undoubtedly limited the effects of the fire. "We would also like to thank our clients for their support and understanding. We are delighted to have maintained our 100% uptime," says Van Wyk.
