Tetris top mobile game

Tetris, the game which first served as a gaming addiction on the Nintendo Game Boy, has now racked up 100 million paid mobile downloads, making it the best-selling mobile phone game of all time, reports T3.

Blue Planet Software, which holds the exclusive licensing rights to the brick-building phenomenon, revealed the feat alongside current mobile publishers of Tetris, EA Mobile at a press conference held at EA Montreal.

Since going mobile back in 2001, Tetris has featured on 64 000 different handsets, and EA Mobile has most recently brought the gaming icon to the cosy confines of Apple's App Store.

EA creates Apple Tablet games

According to new reports, Electronic Arts is already working on games for the upcoming Apple Tablet, and Apple entrusted the company to create games which would highlight the tablet's 'gaming capabilities', says AfterDawn.

The tablet is expected to be unveiled, after years of hype, on 27 January at an Apple event.

All reports have the device as a 10.1-inch multi-touch capable tablet, including an e-book reader, as well as WiFi, 3G, TV, and gaming capabilities.

BBC takes on gaming

The BBC is readying a big push into gaming, using properties like Dr Who and Top Gear to become a player in a massive growth market, according to TechRadar.

BBC Worldwide has appointed Robert Nashak, a former EA executive, as executive vice-president of entertainment, the division that will run gaming.

CEO of BBC Worldwide, John Smith, outlines the strategy for the broadcaster: "Gaming has always been an area of particular interest to BBC Worldwide, especially in recent months with the digital entertainment industry developing at such rapid speed," said Smith.
