Thabang Primary School computer donation

Johannesburg, 30 Sep 2004

The celebration of 10 years of democracy, coupled with the bridging of the digital divide, were cited by Lucky Khumalo of Mthombo IT Services (M-IT) as two of the major changes effecting South African society today.

The personification of democracy is, of course, former President Nelson Mandela, who addressed a group of excited, awe-struck Soweto schoolchildren, their parents, teachers, guests and journalists on Tuesday, 21 September 2004.

The purpose of this inspirational gathering was the official opening of the new education facilities donated to Soweto`s Thabang Primary School by the IDC in conjunction with CashBuild.

Mthombo IT Services is a firm advocate of the concept that the bridging of the technological divide that faces our country begins with the education of the South African youth. As such, M-IT fulfilled on its commitment by donating a fully-equipped, modern computer centre to the school. M-IT has also seconded a full-time qualified IT trainer and a promise to provide ongoing IT support so that the computer centre doesn`t become another white elephant.

This donation is seen by M-IT not as an ad hoc occurrence, but rather as an ongoing interaction with the community and the cultivation of SA`s future IT specialists and business leaders.

Education is the key to success.
