Alcatel announced that the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM), the company organizing the most famous Formula One Grand Prix, had chosen the Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 technology and the DECT Alcatel (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) terminals for the 2002 edition of this major sports event.
The most prestigious Formula One Grand Prix, organized every year in the Principality of Monaco, requires an optimum logistics system and media coverage. The ACM faced two problems: first of all, designing a communication network between the organizers present on the circuit, a reliable system independent of the radio systems (already used by the teams) and of the GSM networks (often saturated during the peak hours); secondly, supplying a high quality voice and data transmission service to the 350 journalists present, and image transmission to the 150 photographers from all over the world who want to cover the event.
Signoret/LTP, Alcatel`s Premium Partner in charge of the project, immediately considered Alcatel`s DECT terminals to satisfy the organizers` needs. This technology offers all the professional functions that the organizers are likely to need: automatic dialing, voice messages, three-party conference, etc. It can be set up rapidly thanks to the deployment of 16 DECT terminals spread over the circuit, which are linked by specialized connections from the Monaco Telecom operator.
" With reliable communications of outstanding quality, the DECT terminals are the ideal alternative to mobility to ensure the race takes place in good conditions" said Mr. Mannoury, the ACM`s Press manager. "32 terminals are available to the organizers, and there is definitely no risk of the network being saturated".
ACM`s second major request was to organize the pressroom with a system offering the journalists and photographers the best possible working conditions because they have to transmit voice, data, image and video information to their editors in real time. The installation of an Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 "hotel" proved to be the most appropriate solution to meet this need.
This system`s "hotel" functions enable each journalist to be monitored individually : they are allocated a personal account, and a terminal is given to them when they arrive which will be used to invoice all their telecommunications. This gives the reporters a great deal of freedom. When they leave, an invoice is given to them showing full details of their consumption.
" We are proud that Alcatel solutions enable the organization of an event such as the Monaco Grand Prix to be improved and that our partners have demonstrated once more their real expertise in recommending the most reliable technologies to their most prestigious customers" said Jean-Luc Fourniou, General Manager of Alcatel`s enterprises activity.
