Syrex, leading provider of virtualised and hybrid network infrastructures and solutions, is committed to investing into worthwhile corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives that do more than just paint classrooms, they change lives. Over the past year, the company has invested in to three CSI activities that have made a huge difference: the Black Mamba all female Anti-Poaching Unit, the Santa Shoebox Project and the Hot Cares Teddy-Thon.

For the Santa Shoebox Project, every member of staff took time out of the working day to ensure that Syrex not only delivered an epic number of shoeboxes, but that they broke their 2016 record.

"We set aside an entire day to focus on getting this right," says Ralph Berndt, Director, Sales at Syrex. "We filled shoeboxes as a team with many of our staff pitching in whilst still having to work, and we managed to fill a record 52 boxes. It is an achievement we are all extremely proud of - we believe in giving back to the community and love the idea of these children having a magical Christmas day."

The Santa Shoebox Project has been running since 2006 and the shoeboxes are distributed to more than 1 000 facilities every year. When the project started out in 2006 it only sent 180 shoeboxes, today the project has donated a total number of 652 180 shoeboxes and changed many young lives.

Another project changing lives is the Black Mamba all female anti-poaching unit. Syrex sponsored one of the members of the unit, Collet Innah Ngobeni, so she can continue with her vital work in protecting the animals. The project pays attention to the animals that are endangered such as lion and rhino, while also providing much-needed financial support to an initiative that empowers women.

"The Black Mambas not only protect our wildlife, but they provide young girls with role models in their communities," adds Berndt. "It is a project that's very close to our company ethos where we believe in diversity and empowerment."

In addition to shoeboxes and anti-poaching units, Syrex donated R15 000 towards the Hot Cares Teddy-Thon that's working to raise around R1 million for the Hot Cares beneficiaries. The event was initiated by Hot 91.9FM and took place on 17 November 2017 with local celebrities, entertainment and the Hot Cares ambassador, Buddy, all raising the bar and funds for charity.
