The BMI-T/IDC African Banking Forum 2005

"The winds of change" - Impact on the South African Banking Landscape
Johannesburg, 04 Jul 2005

BMI-T/IDC South Africa will host the third, highly reputable African Banking Forum on 7 and 8 July 2005 at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.

The primary theme of the forum is to provide incisive insights into the key areas of interest in the South African banking landscape and anticipated changes in African banking today. For example, the impact of impending legislation such as the Dedicated Banks Bill, Co-operative Banks Bill and the Credit Law Review.

The forum will examine key issues impacting on this critical theme and discuss initiatives in the banking sector that will assist banks in facing the challenges presented within this environment. The objective of the forum is to not only examine issues at an academic level but also to concentrate on practical solutions and workable strategies to deal with market realities.

According to Althea Bacchialoni, Principal Banking analyst at BMI-T, the BMI-T/IDC African Banking Forum will highlight several outcomes or next steps which players in the financial sector environment need to comprehend and thus understand how this sector will change in the next 18 to 24 months.

"There is a need to understand the `Winds of Change` that are beginning to sweep through the South African financial sector and to gain an understanding of the envisaged impact of key changes in this sector. Players are beginning to emerge from the four key constituencies that will eventually create the macro structure for the banking sector: namely the inter-relatedness of the regulatory bodies, the existing banks, new banks and the retail market. Underlying these constituencies will be the participation of the mobile network providers and the support of the technology providers. This forum will set the scene and aid in our understanding of the evolving needs of the banking customer market vis a vis the impending legislative and financial changes for SA."

This is not just an ordinary conference. The programme format has been sharpened by IDC over the past 10 years, to the degree that the European IT, telecom and banking forums have become the premier events on the European IT calendar."

BMI-T/IDC South Africa successfully hosted the African Banking Forum in 2003 and 2004, and has added local inputs into the 2005 line-up. The unique style of dialogue and interaction between analysts and other leading industry experts with key industry representatives is the hallmark of this conference.
