The team that brought Landmark performance-monitoring products to SA has scored a coup with the announcement of a distribution agreement with William Data Systems (WDS), a UK-based maker of leading-edge monitoring software.
Explains Leon Theron, former Managing Director of Supported Software, long-term Landmark partner in SA, and now Sales and Marketing Director of JMR Software: "Since Landmark was acquired by ASG worldwide last year, and our performance monitoring agreement with it, we have been on the look-out for a product of comparative excellence to the Landmark suite."
Theron and his team joined JMR Software earlier this year and brought the Landmark product and client base as well its technical support team with them. "I am happy to say William Data Systems` products are more than superior solutions. The company is widely known in particular for its IP network monitoring," says Theron.
WDS joins Nastel in JMR`s focused stable of performance management products. Nastel`s AutoPilot is the leading middleware performance management and automation-monitoring tool, particularly in the WebSphere environment.
Commenting on JMR Software`s commitment to SA`s mainframe performance management market sector, estimated to be valued at R130 million annually, Theron said: "Effective enterprise-wide performance management can substantially reduce the total cost of ownership of a company`s information technology infrastructure. Our skills and experience gleaned from our years promoting the Landmark solution makes us more than equipped to address this key market sector."
WDS was formed in 1993 as collaborative venture between two IT professionals - Will Wharton and Liam Hammond. Since then, the company`s products have been established as central to effective network control. In the last three years, WDS products have been installed by some of the world`s most prestigious organisations, including the US Treasury, British Telecom, Sprint, Boeing and Lloyds.
WDS` Implex is a powerful, activity-based IP network monitor for the z/OS and OS/390 operating environments.
"What set Implex apart from other IP monitors is that it continually reads the IP packets as they pass through the IP stack, whereas other monitors sample data from repositories, such as SMF," says Theron.
Implex employs dataspace technology together with fast indexing and a powerful search engine to minimise system overhead, maximize performance and ensure scalability. It is a tool that offers real-time monitoring and historical data views.
"The ability to manage and control network performance using IP protocol is absolutely key to corporate well-being," says Theron.
Other tools in the WDS suite of products include Exigence, a real-time trace analysis utility for all application and network traffic; FTPalert, an FTP access control, management and auditing utility; and RouteView, a VTAM path table generation and verification tool.
WDS has offices in the US, UK, Germany and France, with distributorship agreements that cover Scandinavia, Benelux, Spain, Italy and Australia.
Established in 1987, JMR Software specialises in delivering turnkey custom-developed applications for mainframe, client server, and Internet-based platforms, and has made major contributions in a range of industries, particularly banking and insurance. The company has over 120 employees, including a large contractor base, which is deployed both in SA and the UK.
