The JSE-listed Connection Group dominated the annual Compaq Reseller Achiever Awards in February, walking off with the honours for Systems Reseller of the Year, Consumer of the Year and the award for Marketing Excellence. Compaq is the largest supplier of personal computers in the world, shipping over 4 million PC`s during the final quarter of 1998 alone.
Houston-based Compaq sells and supports its products in more than 100 countries around the world. In South Africa it was The Connection Group which was honoured with the Marketing Excellence award for the Group`s "creative and excellent marketing" of Compaq products.
The Solutions Division of The Connection Group shared the title of Compaq Systems Reseller of the Year with PQ Africa. The Solutions Division was recognised for consistently exceeding sales targets and for establishing excellent infrastructure and skills levels to supply and support Compaq products.
Compaq`s Consumer of the Year award went to Incredible Connection, the computer store chain within The Connection Group`s retail division.
"The award was in recognition of Incredible Connection`s outstanding performance in the promotion and distribution of Compaq consumer products. Compaq PC`s, notebooks and Personal Digital Assistants represent the flagship products within our retail stores," says Philip Cowles, chief executive of The Connection Group.
"Receiving these three prestigious awards from a company such as Compaq - a world leader - is an outstanding achievement for The Connection Group," says Cowles. "What is particularly pleasing is that the awards not only went to our Incredible Connection stores, which dominate the consumer market in South Africa, but also to our Solutions Division, which is rapidly establishing itself as a major player within the local enterprise solutions market."
