The ECM strategy development unit of NokusaEI looks back at two years of expanding business

Johannesburg, 25 Jun 2007

During 2005, NokusaEI, a leading South African ECM consultancy, expanded its services to include strategic and technology-neutral advice to clients on managing enterprise content (documents, records, images, e-mail, Web - and other content).

In June 2007, the ECM strategy development unit of Nokusa Engineering Informatics celebrated its second year of flourishing business and the 12th successful ECM strategy project.

According to Bennie Kotze, Manager of the ECM strategy development unit at NokusaEI, the projects executed over the last two years included all elements of ECM - from an overall approach and roadmaps, to detail on the instruments of ECM, such as policy frameworks, business classification schemes, metadata schemes, functional specifications, ECM organisational design and information inventories.

"We provide frameworks," states Kotze, "to address ECM processes within the organisation, to improve organisational behaviour towards content, to address compliance and to ease the implementation of ECM technology."

The ultimate aim, he continues, "is to provide tangible results - proving a better bottom line and improved business processes through proper management of documents, records and other content".

"Most organisations know they could (and should) do more with the information they possess, they also realise they must comply with industry standards, international standards, national and international legislation, but find it difficult to define what is needed in terms of policies, processes, practices, organisation, people and technology."

To address this, says Kotze: "We provide tools to measure the ECM maturity of the organisation as a starting point. We then proceed to build the desired state, taking into account the overall direction of the organisation, business realities and the environment. We assist in preparing the people and organisation, focus on a detailed business case, build ECM processes and support change-management, thus paving the way for a successful ECM technology implementation."
