The Vodacom Techno Expo opened at Vodaworld in Midrand yesterday with cellphone manufacturers putting their fastest and smartest on display.
Data-oriented devices aimed at providing new ranges of mobile data services are well represented, but the youth and leisure market will have the most to see, as the emphasis is on style.
Sound and display technology led the way in terms of technology innovation, with cellphones, such as the Motorola V600 and Nokia 3650, boasting video playback capability and others like the Siemens C55 promising a unique sound experience.
One of the most eye-catching devices on display was Samsung`s new E700 camera phone that will be available this month. In its professed quest to be the "best to market", Samsung has packed the E700 with a 300 000 pixel VGA camera, digital zoom, low-light functionality, effects editing, and a multi-shot facility that enables users to take multiple shots in seconds.
The Techno Expo is open until Sunday for anyone who would like a hands-on impression of what new cellular and mobile technologies can be expected in the coming months.
