With more than 4 000 visitors already pre-registered, Futurex once again promises to be a huge success. This annual business event in the ICT and electronics industry, the biggest event of its kind on the African continent, is taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 16 to 19 May.
This year, there are 200 exhibitors, three shows and two conferences over four days. LinuxWorld is now in its second year and this year will see the addition of Equip, a new business equipment exhibition for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Equip will attract key business decision-makers and buyers from local SMEs.
Exhibitions for Africa director Aldean Prior says Futurex remains the most important ICT event of the year. "The packed programme of forums and special presentations gives an informed public an insight into the complexity of important new technologies. This year, we have a strong international representation with 20 exhibitors from as far as India, Korea, Dubai and the UK. We have also seen a huge increase in pre-registrations from across the African continent."
Top local and international professionals will address current ICT business and technology issues at the Futurex - The Conference. The conference is the top ICTE business forum and is hosted by the Computer Society of South Africa in association with the Electronics Industries Federation and Exhibitions for Africa. Running alongside the Futurex exhibition, the aim of this two-day event is to examine and discuss future directions for both corporates and SMEs, in the context of current and future technologies.
Futurex - The Conference will be held from 18 to 19 May 2006 alongside Futurex. South African leaders and thought innovators will gather to share their experiences with an audience of ICT professionals at this year`s event.
Visitors are also invited to attend the free keynotes at LinuxWorld 2006, being held on 16 and 17 May. Speakers include Jon `Maddog` Hall from Linuxworld International, Chris Pratt from IBM Canada, Jeff Waugh from Ubuntu and Nat Friedman from Novell.
Executive director of Linux International, Hall is one of the most prominent and outspoken figures in the Linux community. Hall`s 30-year career includes work as a computer programmer, systems designer, systems administrator, product manager, technical marketing manager, author, consultant to local, state and national governments worldwide and college educator. He also serves on the boards of several companies and non-profit organisations, including the USENIX Association.
"We are extremely excited to have yet again secured a world-class list of keynote speakers. This is a rare opportunity for the local business and technical communities, and with all the keynotes being open to the public, we are expecting a massive response," says Prior.
"Futurex will attract key local, African and international business contacts that have a direct influence on the corporate buying decisions. The intensive 360-degree marketing and promotions campaign is focused on CEOs, CIOs, IT executives and buyers from organisations ranging from large corporates to SMEs, NGOs and public service," she concludes.
