The first mouse with two eyes

Logitech has launched a mouse that incorporates two optical sensors - the first product to do so. Dubbed MouseMan Dual Optical, the product is said to deliver increased accuracy and precision on a broader range of surfaces.

It represents the next decisive step forward in the design of optical mouses, according to Shawn Bezuidenhout, sales manager at Logitech South Africa.

The twin sensors work seamlessly together to provide a resolution of 800 dots per inch (dpi), twice that of previous sensors. They also read surface microstructures from a different angle, to optimise performance. Conventional optical mouses rely on a single view of the desktop.

A signal processor then synthesizes the information from the sensors to detect the speed and direction of even the slightest movement.

According to Logitech, the MouseMan Dual Optical carries many of the same design features as Logitech`s award-winning Cordless MouseMan Optical. It is comfortably contoured to fit the right hand, allowing the hand to rest in a natural position.

Its four buttons are carefully positioned for quick and easy access, with the fourth button located conveniently under the thumb. The scroll wheel doubles as the third button and can be programmed to instantly connect to the Internet using Logitech software.

The four buttons are individually progammable and can be set to the user`s preference. The mouse has an attractive metallic finish that is a stylish addition to any desktop.

The mouse is compatible with Windows 3.X and higher, as well as Macintosh 8.6 or later operating systems. As is the case for all Logitech products, the MouseMan Dual Optical is fully compatible with Windows XP.
