There is no doubt that today's IT landscape has changed dramatically with the advent of virtualisation and cloud computing, the proliferation of devices in the network, the growing complexity of organisations' networks, and the economic pressures that are now being faced, with the result that new approaches are needed to address this situation. However, through the use of automation, not only can these issues be handled, but a leaner and more efficient user operation can be created and some financial savings achieved. Thus, symptoms can be handled and resolved before they create problems.
Syrex is a specialist in the installation and support of various different network infrastructures and is capable of providing proactive PC management, network management and support, for both Microsoft and Linux environments. This is an unusual situation, as most managed service providers only focus on one environment. Since the majority of corporates now utilise both environments, the latter capability, which was developed by Syrex several years ago, takes on a new meaning.
"With the changes that are happening within the current IT environment, it is paramount that proactive measures are in place to address any issues that may arise, while maintaining the security of the network, and ensuring that backup services are available and business continuity is a reality," commented Ralph Berndt of Syrex.
"With a managed service approach, there is less downtime and better utilisation of equipment, and the personnel previously associated with these activities can be redeployed in more productive ways.
"With virtualisation and moves to a hosted environment that may be cloud-based, infrastructure consolidation at the user end is one of the activities that needs to be handled appropriately," continued Berndt. "For this scenario, for instance, we offer a Syrex Firewall, which is a stable, flexible and cost-effective system based on the Red Hat Linux operating system. It is a customised and managed platform giving business a highly secure environment that includes remote access, inter-branch connectivity, mail and Web hosting, as well as connectivity management and firewalling.
"Despite the move to hosted or cloud environments, support is still needed for connected devices, particularly in the areas of security and connectivity," concluded Berndt. "It's that the role has migrated to a higher level; however, the necessity is still there."
