Internet Solutions (IS) has won a five-year contract to supply the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) with an MPLS VPN (virtual private network). Pricing and reliability were the customer`s primary pain points, as well as scalability for future growth. In addition, while SANBS were looking to an MPLS type environment only in the future, IS was able to not only bring this solution in on budget, but show the stability and benefits of the technology for immediate use.
The initial IS proposal is for a 92-site MPLS VPN. Future additional services such as hosting in the IS IDC, provision of Citrix across the backbone, GPRS and mobility, and detailed security systems have been allowed for in a fully scalable and regionalised solution.
The project is already under way and will be staged to include the majority of the provinces by last calendar quarter 2004.
