The new IBMThinkPad 240X Mini-notebook is now available locally from distributor Tarsus Technologies. The latest in this highly successful series is sure not to disappoint, as the move towards m-commerce gathers momentum. The IBM engineers had only one person in mind when designing the ThinkPad 240X: the mobile professional. The 240X enters the market in the Super-Fly weight division, weighing in at below 1.5kg. and approximately 2.5cm.
"Just because you need maximum portability, doesn`t mean that you have to sacrifice functionality," states Ross Matthee, IBM business manager at Tarsus Technology. He continues: "The features offered by this ultralight mini-notebook read like those of a cutting edge desktop PC: Intel Pentium III processor at 500MHz or an Intel Celeron processor at 450 MHz; 64MB SDRAM expandable to 192MB; hard disk drive up to 12 GB and an integrated 56K V.90 Mini PCI modem. These sort of specs. have been previously excluded from the mini-notebook category."
Ease of use is also pretty high up on the list of benefits. The bright, easy-to-read 10.4 inch thin-film-transistor display boasts an 800 by 600 resolution, and the notebook can sustain a battery life of up to 4.2 hours. All standard ports, including infrared, are found onboard negating the need for an additional port expander bar for printing or connecting to peripherals. This means that the mobile professional can travel light and unhindered, with a fully integrated notebook.
"The TrackPoint pointing device and large palm rest make for effortless, comfortable typing on a keyboard that has been engineered to be 95% the size of the current standard ThinkPads," notes Matthee. " It also ships with Windows `98 Second Edition or Windows 2000 Professional preloaded, and supports Windows `95 and Windows NT 4.0, making it highly versatile," he adds further. "For portable efficiency the IBM ThinkPad 240X covers all the bases, AND fits comfortably on an aeroplane tray-table," concludes Matthee.
