The Innovation Hub nominated for international intelligent community award

By The Innovation Hub
Johannesburg, 16 May 2005

The Innovation Hub, as a Gauteng Provincial Government initiative, has been selected as a finalist by the international Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) for its annual Intelligent Community of the Year Awards.

Announced by the ICF in New York on 12 May, the awards will be presented during its annual conference in New York in June this year. The Hub's nomination falls in the "Intelligent Community Visionary of the Year" category which it shares with NEPAD's e-schools Africa project and OneCleveland, a community development project in Cleveland, Ohio.

The ICF cited the reason for the nomination, referred to as Gauteng Province, SA for The Innovation Hub, as "the leadership of the province in bringing together multiple stakeholders and the role that The Innovation Hub will play in becoming a model for other regions in SA and the rest of the continent in support of more intelligent community developments" (source: ICF media release issued in New York on 12 May 2005).

According to Hub CEO Dr Neville Comins: "Being a finalist in such a prestigious award positions us to rightfully acknowledge The Innovation Hub's role in supporting Gauteng as a smart province. This has been a significant focus of the goals of our project and is a tribute to the vision shown by the Gauteng Provincial Government in its Blue IQ initiative."
