The ability to focus on high-value analysis while reducing risk and streamlining reporting processes in finance and BI are no longer pipe dreams or even optional - they are both attainable and increasingly important.
To highlight this, Synergy is presenting three breakfast events in major cities where the spotlight will be on the last mile of reporting for finance and BI, with the help of IBM's disclosure management packages.
"What we've seen in the industry in recent times is that both financial and BI reporting make use of multiple data sources that involve multiple stakeholders. In addition, they often rely on manual processes and personal productivity tools to summarise and present analysis in a wide variety of formatted reports and presentations," says Christo Bredenkamp, MD of Synergy.
"The problem with that is that businesses often don't really know how many spreadsheets and word processing documents they rely on. Or how much time their people spend copying, pasting and re-keying. They don't even realise how many embarrassing and costly errors have been caught at the last minute and almost made it out the door.
"Worldwide data is set to double in the next two years, which is good and bad. More data can help organisations make better-informed decisions. But the explosion of data can also cause further delays of critical analysis and reports because of the manual processes that are used to gather, cleanse and model the data, and subsequently to analyse and report.
"This is where time is lost and mistakes are made. Disclosure management solutions, however, have proved invaluable in maintaining consistency among various stakeholders, who benefit from the same enabling technology."
Guest speaker at the events will be Charlie Harris, IBM Worldwide Solutions Specialist focused on financial reporting and disclosure management.
Harris is based in the metro New York area and has been with his team since 2008. Prior to this, he spent 10 years in the software industry working with accounting, performance management and business intelligence software systems.
The Synergy Last Mile of Reporting for Finance and BI events will take place in Johannesburg, on 12 March, at the FNB Training and Conference Centre, in Sandton; in Cape Town, on 13 March, at the Mount Nelson Hotel; and in Durban, on 14 March, at the Oyster Box Hotel, in Umhlanga Rocks.
