Rectron, distributors of Creative Lab`s products, has announced the release of a new portable PC camera for videoconferencing, sending full-motion video e-mail, or creating multimedia web sites.
The Video Blaster WebCam Go Plus is a desktop PC camera which can be unplugged and carried around by mobile users. It acts as a digital camera and a digital voice annotation recorder.
It has a sleek, ergonomic design, making it easy to use, and comes with 8MB of built-in memory (6MB for stills/videos and 2MB for audio), "This enables users to store more than 200 images (at 640 x 480 resolution) and more than 400 images (at 320 x 240 resolution)," says Rui Pereira, IT manager at Rectron.
"There is no need for diskettes or memory cards, and since it`s non-volatile, users won`t lose their captured images if the camera`s batteries are drained or removed."
Pereira explains that the digital voice annotation feature lets users add their thoughts to their snapshots and create photos that literally talk. "Or users can use this feature to record any thoughts, like last minute additions to a shopping list."
In addition, he says, the improved lens and sensor produces brighter and clearer pictures than previously. "Many other cameras use an inferior CCD sensor. CMOS offers better colour reproduction than CCD, particularly in capturing skin tones. CMOS sensors are also less sensitive to `hot spots` caused by uneven lighting.
When using the WebCam Go Plus in portable modes, users also have the flexibility of four image capture modes (low to high resolution), each instantly selectable with the mode selector button on the back of the camera.
"Users can grab video at up to 30 frames per second while they`re at their PC. Or they can use multi-frame mode to automatically capture images as quickly as 24 per second when they`re on the go." Pereira adds that the Video Blaster WebCam Go Plus, which retails at R1699-00 (inc. VAT), is suitable for capturing outdoor sports action, or creating `mini-movies`.
