Mirror Business Solutions is proud to introduce the latest release of The Simplistic Architecture software development methodology.
The methodology is based on the development of systems through Microsoft VB.NET, the .NET Framework and SQL Server. It includes Mirror TOOL - a .NET-based Case (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tool enabling fast and easy creation of Web-based solutions for the Windows platform.
Like most Case tools, Mirror tool offers database modelling and documenting functionalities, but furthermore, the developer gets T-SQL scripts as output, which enables the ease of porting the database model into SQL Server.
Mirror Business Solutions pushes the idea of a Case tool a bit further, as it also offers user-interface and code generation in VB.NET. “All the developer has to worry about is the business logic of the system at hand,” says Gustav Oberholzer, Managing Director and founding member of Mirror Business Solutions. The methodology and the Case tool have been tried and tested with the development of Mirror Streamline, Mirror Business Solutions' very own ERP system for small and medium companies, and also for various client-specific applications, such as Jurgens Caravans' new CRM system for dealers.
Mirror tool offers two ways in which the application/system can communicate with the database, namely SAstandard and SA.XML.
SAstandard-type applications are the simplest and quickest to develop, and these applications have a very responsive user-interface. This is because the client application talks directly to the database. In a single line of code you can grab data from the database and present it to the user, in a fraction of a second.
SA.XML-type applications, on the other hand, talk to the database via a gateway, or to be more technically correct, a Web service. This approach involves the conversion of data to XML; this overhead inflates the data packages, and the user-interface is less responsive. SA.XML-type applications are more complex to develop, and therefore more costly than SAstandard. SA.XML does, however, offer a much tighter security mechanism: the server running the database need not be exposed on the Internet. Only the gateway is exposed, so hackers have fewer fronts to attack.
SAstandard should suffice for most commercial applications, and SA.XML can be considered for applications where security is of major concern.
As a promotion, Mirror tool is currently offered free to early adaptors until 31 December 2010, available for download from www.mirrorsa.co.za. A comprehensive step-by-step guide is also provided.
The creation of robust and user-friendly Web-based solutions has never been this fast, easy or cost-effective!
