The US has Exodus, SA has the DaQ

Johannesburg, 29 May 2001

Data Pro has announced the launch of DaQ, a hosting facility which creates a corporate peering point to enable companies to directly connect to each other and optimise existing bandwidth.

DaQ is believed to be the first solution of its kind to be launched in SA. Providing abundant and fast local Internet access at the lowest cost possible, DaQ is ideal for any businesses using large amounts of local bandwidth.

According to Douglas Reed, Managing Director of Data Pro, this solution, which is aimed at major corporates, has naturally evolved from the company`s current Dual ISP offering. "We have effectively taken our Dual ISP solution and added a hosting and peering element." This aims to empower corporates by saving on IT expenses and ensuring true redundancy.

Data Pro aims to establish the DaQ as the corporate peering point of choice and has modelled the concept on similar services offered by Exodus in the US. The DaQ will allow companies to make use of their existing ISP, as well as an additional service provider, thereby improving on speeds and performance.

"For the first time," says Reed, "companies will be able to optimise local bandwidth."
