Fibreplus, one of South Africa`s fastest growing distributors of fibre optic cable and accessories, has announced the availability of the R&M Freenet Cabling System, which meets Category 6 specifications. Modular in design, it allows the selection of a solution best suited to the user`s application.
This Freenet system offers three major options: Classic, Star and Vision.
The Classic System addresses the classical Category 5 enhanced market, up to Gigabyte transmission speeds.
The Star System offers Class E / Category 6 (Interoperable and backward compatible). This solution addresses the most challenging applications and future-proofs the networking infrastructure.
Vision is a fibre optic solution targeted at the most demanding applications. It addresses security issues and fibre to the desktop (FTTD) requirements.
Within these three basic Systems, users can select the type of cabling (Screened or UTP), the type of screen (FTP, S-FTP, S-STP or PIMF) as well as the type of material used in the cables (PVC, LSHO, LSFRHO).
Dave Fawcett, Fibreplus CEO, says few networking vendors plan to develop applications that require the sophistication of Category 6 certification, yet there are many good reasons to suggest the selection of such systems as a basic infrastructure.
He says Cat 6 systems offer more than double of the performance of other commonly used, standards-based network infrastructures and are a sound investment for the future.
"Despite the slightly higher price tag, Category 6 cabling is one of the best ways to guarantee a safe margin for transmission errors in the high performance networks which will characterise the future corporate landscape," he says.
"Massive data bases are today placing additional loads on networks - and the trend is growing. It is imperative therefore to select systems, such as Cat 6, which ensure error free transmissions. This is vital when the data is of a mission critical nature."
