LG Electronics recently participated in the 2005 Korean Electronics Show (KES) held at KINTEX, in Goyang City and confirmed their reputation as the world`s leading cutting-edge digital products company.
The main attraction of the event was the enormous 102inch plasma and the satellite/terrestrial DMB phones. In addition to this, LG also presented its globally competitive plasma TVs, LCD TVs, home networking/built-in appliances and other digital convergence products.
Major Products at KES 2005
* Plasma TV
The 102-inch plasma TV by LG Electronics boasts full level high definition (HD) 2.07 million pixels, 1 920x1 080, doubling the existing level of one million-pixels, 1 365x768. This successfully secures the industry`s largest line-up of full HD plasma TV`s with sizes of 102, 76, 71, and 60 inches.
Full HD plasma TV`s employ super-speed driving technology and innovative materials for which LG have set the benchmark. It also has double the resolution of ordinary plasma TV`s, yet provides the same level of brightness (1 000 candelas) and a contrast ratio of higher than 5 000:1.
In developing this highly-efficient 102-inch plasma TV, LG employed high-speed signal treatment technology ad its proprietary technology of picture treatment algorithms.
The 102inch plasma TV was initially developed towards the end of last year at the company`s A2 production line. However, the 102inch plasma TV displayed at KES 2005 was produced at its A3 production line, which began its full operation in September.
The HDR plasma is the first TV of its kind to be equipped with a recordable hard disk device, a memory card slot and a 160GB hard drive. This device possesses 2-3 times the ordinary PC storage capacity and is designed to record and play up to 13 hours of HD broadcasts and up to 63 hours of analogue broadcasts, without a separate storage device.
* Mobile phones
About 20 different kinds of new cutting-edge mobile handsets and accessories such as the T-style satellite/terrestrial DMB phone, a multi-function music phone, a 5-megapixel digital camera phone, a navigation phone and a 3D game phone were also on display at the show.
The satellite DMB phones (LG-SB130/KB1300) and terrestrial DMB phones (LG-LD1200) unveiled at KES 2005, all feature a rotational T-style design LCD allowing users to conveniently watch digital broadcasting on a horizontal slide out screen. They are also equipped with a picture clarity enhancement chip (mobile XD-engine), employing LG Electronics` world-class digital TV technology and a 2.2-inch QVGA (320X240) LCD, allowing users to watch clear-picture broadcasts.
In particular, the satellite phones (LG-SB130/KB1300) make use of the `Timemachine` function, allowing users to speak over the phone while watching TV. The `Timemachine` phone enables up to 60 minutes of recording and replaying and supports virtual 5.1-channels, delivering stereo quality 3D sounds.
These phones highlight LG Electronics` unique synergistic effect of incorporating TV and mobile technology into one compact package. LG Electronics will continue to accelerate the convergence of both categories, building on the creative synergies to become the world`s top mobile phone maker.
