Third annual Comztek ladies` golf day proves successful

The third annual ladies` golf day, hosted by IT and communications systems distributor Comztek, was a huge success.

The event took place over the 18 holes of the Centurion Country Club on 26 October and was sponsored by 3Com, Cisco and Nortel Networks, with Adic, NetShield and Symantec as co-sponsors.

A field of 66 golfers - made up of Comztek`s female resellers, staff and members of the media - competed in the four-ball challenge.

Each competitor was handed a golf shirt at the start and prizes awarded to the ladies included golf clothing from MatchPlay, Woolworths vouchers, hampers and beach mats.

Comztek hired golf professionals to get proceedings under way at the first and tenth holes. Each of the players could `purchase` a ball for R10 which was teed off by a professional at the first hole - R660 was collected and awarded to one winner at the end of the day.

Comztek sponsored a `closest to the pin` competition, while the Comztek product managers awarded a prize for the longest drive - won by Gaynor du Toit from IBM.

In addition to the prizes and gifts for the golfers, Comztek hosted the two watering holes and provided roving drinks carts, caddies and lunch at the halfway mark for everyone.

Companies that participated in the event included arivia.kom, AST, Business Connexion, CHM Vuwani, Cyber Detectives, Eclipse, Gijima and PC Worx.

Leen van der Bijl, Comztek chairman, was the only man to participate in the event as the master of ceremonies for the evening prize-giving and dinner.

Says Jenny-Lee Williams, marketing manager at Comztek: "Our first golf day in 2002 was so successful with a field of 40 that we decided to run this event annually. Last year we hosted 60 golfers and this year we attracted almost 70 players from the IT reseller channel.

"We believe that while women well, an activity such as this allows customers and vendors to interact, while fostering deeper relationships that ultimately benefit our channel partners and our business."
