Durban-based IT integration company Three-D Computer Services, a company in the MB Worksoft group, has formed a strategic partnership with IBM SA to provide solutions for its customer base in the emerging e-commerce market.
Three-D MD Mary Harding says her company is ideally poised to assist organisations that are preparing to move into e-commerce. The company has successfully concluded negotiations with IBM and has been appointed as the only IBM e-Business Partner in KwaZulu-Natal.
"E-commerce technology is in many cases concerned with integration to legacy systems and transforming them to be Web-enabled. Systems integration is where Three-D has focused its direction for the past six years, building a solid foundation of expertise and skills.
"Now that e-commerce is starting to emerge, it is logical for us to start forming strategic partnerships in this area, such as our alliance with IBM, and targeting companies that are intending to embrace this business model.
These include retail and manufacturing organisations," says Harding.
Three-D announced the launch of the partnership with IBM at a function in Durban. Harding says Durban has sufficient scope to start rolling out e-business solutions before expanding the business nationally.
"We investigated a number of e-commerce solutions on the market and selected those from IBM because of its high level of functionality and the strength of the IBM name itself."
Harding points out that the great difference between relationships in electronic form and current business relationships is the amount of information a company has on its customers, partners and suppliers. Using that information, products and services can be developed and deployed on a highly individual and highly personalised basis.
"E-business networks must support connections to the people, groups, organisations and communities with which an organisation does business. Enterprise intranets and extranets will converge to create a dynamic, relationship-driven system and it is here that Three-D has the skills and expertise nationwide to provide solutions," says Harding.
