UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Systems use statistical traffic anomaly and protocol anomaly protection methods, and are also updated with the latest vulnerability protection through the Digital Vaccine service. TippingPoint's Advanced Denial of Service (DoS) Protection stops SYN floods, established connection floods and connection per second floods. All UnityOne systems come with Standard DoS Protection, which utilises threshold filters to block or throttle traffic that goes beyond a defined percentage of normal traffic.
"Not all intrusion prevention products are created equal. IPS product innovations include traffic shaping and use multiple detection methods. Best of breed IPS products are low-latency, in-line, and come with a range of offerings sized to the intended placement point," added Greg Young, a research director at Gartner. "The key selection criteria for IPS include performance and prevention strategy. An IPS product must protect against denial of service attacks, and not become the denial of service attacker through poor performance."
