SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the African distributor for TippingPoint Technologies, today announced that the latter's UnityOne Intrusion Prevention System was recognised as the 'Network Protection Product of the Year' by IDG, an internationally-recognised publisher with more than 300 publications in 85 countries, at the 2004 IDG Network Awards presented by Techworld.com.
The prestigious IDG awards recognise the very best in the industry and reward companies for innovative and effective use of networking technology. Over 150 nominations were received for this year's Network Awards. Awards were determined by a comprehensive panel of 18 judges comprised of representatives from businesses, consulting firms, universities, Techworld and other publications.
Finalists competing for the Network Protection award included CheckPoint's Interspect and Brightmail. Winners were announced in London at the IDG and Techworld gala event last month where over 700 senior guests attended from various industries.
According to Techworld Publisher Guy Eaton: "We were extremely pleased with this year's award recipients, which incorporated an unsurpassed level of quality and innovation into their solutions. The breakthrough technology at the core of TippingPoint's product dramatically improves the efficiency of network security."
"We are honoured to accept this highly-esteemed award, and are pleased that our UnityOne Intrusion Prevention System was recognised, once again, as the leading solution for network security," said Kip McClanahan, TippingPoint's chief executive officer. "This award further validates Intrusion Prevention as the next evolutionary step in network security and demonstrates that TippingPoint's UnityOne IPS is substantially and immediately improving security and network performance for our customers."
TippingPoint's award-winning UnityOne has consistently ranked as the leading Intrusion Prevention System with The NSS Lab's Gold Award, eWEEK's Analyst Choice Award, SANS Trusted Tool, Common Criteria certification, and eWEEK's Excellence Award in Enterprise Resource Protection.
TippingPoint's UnityOne provides Application Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at gigabit speeds through total packet flow inspection. Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, UnityOne protects VOIP infrastructure, routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. UnityOne Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.
