Tiv Technologies has announced the Casino Tracking System for the management of staff and assets in the casino industry.
The Casino Tracking System is a local positioning system with active tags that broadcast information.
Israeli company Elpas has provided the technology. Trevor Traube, product manager at Tiv, says Elpas has provided tracking solutions to the health-care, building, and corporate sectors.
"The system is now finding new applications in the gaming industry" he says.
"The tags use a combination of Infrared and Radio Frequency techniques. Infrared readers are used to localise assets and people, while Radio Frequency readers are mainly used when assets may not be removed from the premises."
Traube says the system is unobtrusive, integrated and simple to operate. It functions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"It offers a complete, integrated system for meeting the requirements for access control, time and attendance, tracking of personnel movements and management of the most important assets," he said.
Tiv`s Elpas system addresses the following key areas in effective casino staff and asset management.
Access Control
All casino staff are provided with a personnel badge with their name, picture, corporate logo and an operating button.
Entry and exit from parking areas can be controlled by using a button on the badge without the need to open the car window. Date and time of entry is automatically recorded.
Certain parking areas can be restricted.
With the aid of turnstiles or other entry barriers at the staff entrance, the system ensures that only one person at a time will be able to enter or exit.
Various areas in the casino are restricted to certain staff only.
Staff may be denied access to certain lifts and floors. This can be done on a permanent or customised basis. Restricting access is preferred to creating an alarm for being in the wrong area.
Both strike locks and magnetic locks can be used.
Personnel Tracking
The system tracks staff throughout the casino. Additional rooms can also be monitored, such as a smoking room and the canteen.
Should the personnel badge be removed, its motion sensor will indicate that the person is no longer wearing the badge and an alert can be provided.
Should there be an emergency requiring immediate attention, the press of a button will create an alarm, show the location on a map and show a picture of the person. This immediate localisation can greatly reduce the response time of security personnel.
The system can also be integrated with a video system in order to record and identify the problem area.
The system can monitor and record the movements of floor staff. Reports will show where and when the staff are operating. Patterns may easily be deduced from the system to improve staff performance.
The movement of guards can be monitored to see that they move around the areas required. The system can also show if they are often together in the same areas. This can be used to provide feedback and to ensure staff performance.
Under certain conditions, such as the absence of a guard from a certain area, a pager message may need to be sent to management on the floor. Integration of pagers with the system is an option. This example illustrates the flexibility of the Elpas system and its ability to integrate with other systems.
Asset Management
Slot machines can be tracked in the casino area and also in any repair or staging areas. Any attempt to remove the machine`s tag will raise an alert. This will ensure the assets are properly accounted for, and staff members will be recorded in the same area as the equipment thereby creating accountability.
In addition, opening the slot machine will be recorded in the database.
Computer, notebook computer and other office equipment can be tagged and raise the alarm should any of the equipment be removed without authorization through any of the exits.
The system can be coupled to an asset management database. This will provide real time information on the assets doing away with the need to take inventory.
Time and Attendance System
A time and attendance module is provided with the system. This can be integrated to scheduling and payment systems. No separate clocking in is required.
In addition, the system can, for example, deny access to staff if it is not their shift.
Visitors
Most valued guests may be given a personnel badge allowing them into special areas such as parking and a salon prive. A history of their movements is also recorded which may assist management with improved planning.
Other visitors and contractors can be issued with personnel badges. This can be used to ensure that they do not enter areas where they are not allowed. The system can also ensure, for example, that their hosts are with them at all times. This should greatly improve security.
Other communications
Doors can be monitored to determine whether they are open or closed, thereby identifying potential problem areas.
Staff will therefore be able to use a single badge to perform all their requirements. They can also use their personnel badge to pay in the canteen.
The system can be integrated with building management systems to further enhance the cost effectiveness and quality of the environment.
