Toledo Telephone gives $2.1m grant

Toledo residents and any member of Cowlitz Tribe can receive computer training, a free laptop and discounted high-speed Internet access thanks to a $2.1 million federal grant given to the Toledo Telephone, says TDN.com.

The federal economic stimulus grant will pay for 30 000 hours of training in computer literacy and job searching skills for approximately 750 residents. Participants in the training also qualify for a new laptop compute, says Dale Merten, chief operating officer of Toledo Telephone.

"The goal is to get a good quality laptop in everybody's hands," he says "I just wish I could do this for all the neighboring communities.

MyWorkSearch shortlisted for e-learning award

Less than a year in operation, online re-employment assistance service MyWorkSearch has made the shortlist for 'most innovative new product or tool' at the London E-Learning Awards, says Onrec.

MyWorkSearch is helping over 25 000 users find work with its interactive service of tools, information and e-learning programmes, says Richard Alberg, founder and CEO of MyWorkSearch.

According to Alberg, with the first anniversary of its operation approaching, it is delighted to be shortlisted for this award. He says its service harnesses the latest technology to deliver information and e-learning programmes in a way that engages and helps its customers.

E-learning courses for financial advisers

The Investment Program Association (IPA), and The American College for financial advisors, have introduced the first in a planned series of e-learning continuing education courses for financial advisors and financial wholesalers, designed to expand their understanding of direct investments, writes Insurancenewsnet.com.

“This introductory e-learning course will help advisors and wholesalers better understand the different direct investments available today and assess their suitability for investors,” explains Daniel Courtney, chairperson of the IPA's Education Committee and senior vice-president for Resource Real Estate.

Designed by The American College, the IPA's educational partner, the introductory course will include eight modules, he says.
