South African-developed mobile app Toll Track has launched in the US, allowing users to track and log their road toll costs using built-in global positioning systems (GPS) in their smartphones.
The app was launched in SA for Android and iOS devices last year and detects e-toll, Bakwena and Trac N4 (to Nelspruit) gantries.
The US version is set to launch on the Orange County toll roads in California.
"The user does a once-off initial setup on their device of choice, by saving the vehicle and payment type before pressing the start button to initiate automatic gantry detection," the company says in a statement.
Toll Track records gantries passed through while travelling and produces detailed monthly logs, including applicable discounts and net payable amount.
Jacques Theyse, developer and owner of Toll Track, says he will look to "expand its feature set to include every toll system in the US".
The app costs $1.99 in the US as an advert-free, full-featured app on the Apple app store and an Android version is still being developed.
Other forthcoming tools include TollCalc USA - a route planner and cost calculator specifically developed for the iPad - and versions for the Windows 8 platform.
