TomTom Africa, formerly known as mapIT, is proud to announce its support of the Mobility4Life Ironman team, Paul Bisogno and Le-Roy Geldenhuys, who will be competing in the 10th South African Ironman race on 6 April 2014. TomTom will be sponsoring one of their interactive route maps in partnership with Altech Netstar, which has provided the team with tracking devices; this will allow online spectators and donators of the charity to follow Bisogno and Geldenhuys throughout the race.
"Mobility4Life are not offering these people an opportunity for a better life, they're offering them a completely new one. To be able to give the gift of mobility is something very few organisations or individuals are able to do, so to be part of something this incredible is an honour for us and our team," said Etienne Louw, General Manager of TomTom Africa. Bisogno and Geldenhuys will be raising money for the Mobility4Life charity in order to donate prosthetic technology to three homeless amputees.
With 452 kilometres to cover between the two of them, Bisogno and Geldenhuys are hoping to raise R110 000 by putting up each kilometre they cover for sponsorship at the rate of R245 per kilometre.
Established in 2013, Mobility4Life has been making a difference by providing a secure and trustworthy platform for the delivery of prosthetic solutions to the rural people of South Africa.
Its unique community-based project model extends the opportunity of participation and contribution to all South Africans through funding and contributing toward the delivery of a robust and innovative prosthetic technology, which adds to the quality of life of the poorest-of-the-poor rural amputees.
Through the Mobility4Life 'Ironman Project' (www.m4l.org.za/ironman), donor support has enabled homeless amputee (Samuel) residing out of the Pretoria East area to be the first recipient of the project to receive a prosthetic leg. The official handover will take place towards the end of April 2014, thus affording him a new lease on life and giving him the opportunity to do things that he has previously not been able to do.
