Toni Fourie takes helm at Connection Group

Johannesburg, 23 Oct 2002
Connection Group, SA`s dominant IT retailer, today announced that its chief executive, Pierre Joubert, will be moving to Rand Merchant Bank. He will be replaced by Toni Fourie, current CEO of Connection`s retail arm, Incredible Connection.

Chairman Stephen Mulholland said Joubert would remain on the Connection Group board as a non-executive director.

Mulholland said: "After turning around Connection Group, Pierre is moving on to a new challenge. I am delighted that he has agreed to remain with us as a non-executive director. Toni is exactly the right man to take over. He is steeped in retailing and has done a wonderful job at Incredible Connection."

Toni Fourie has been at Connection Group for 3 years. He developed Incredible Connection into SA`s top IT retailer. Fourie has been a director of large companies for a number of years. Before moving to Connection, Fourie was the deputy CEO of MassDiscounters and Managing Director of Dion.

Fourie said he was delighted at the opportunity presented by his appointment.

He said: "This group has great potential and it will be a privilege to head it. I`m particularly pleased that Pierre will stay on the board and that we shall still have access to his expertise."

Said Joubert: "I am excited by the new challenges I will face at RMB, but I retain a strong interest in the future of the Connection Group."

Said Fourie: "The Group`s strategy for the medium term has been carefully crafted and I believe that together with my team, we are eminently qualified to execute this strategy and to take the Group to the next level."
