technology distributor Verb Innovations has released My Mobile Watchdog locally. The parental control is aimed at children between six and 14 who use cellphones.

The company says the product can monitor incoming and outgoing SMS, MMS and e-mails to enable parents to view the message and the number. “With this software, parents will also be able to track phone calls, call duration and number. It will enable parents to block applications, social sites, and the Internet.”

According to Gareth Miller, director of Verb Innovations, the product is a dual implementation solution: it can be downloaded as an application on most smartphones, or as a more wide-reaching network installation.

He says: “Cellphones are becoming 'smart' at an alarming pace and it is estimated that smartphone sales will eclipse PCs by 2012. Parents need to be aware of the capabilities of cellphones as the tools required for effective parenting have changed dramatically over the past five years.”
