Top IT employer survey has broader scope

ITWeb and TalentAlign are asking how well South African organisations their IT employees in a nationwide survey aiming to identify SA's leading IT employer.

Called 'The search for the CSSA 2010 IT leading employer', the survey aims to give insight into the current IT health of organisations across the country. The winner will be publicly acknowledged as valuing their IT employees' contribution, which will help them attract top talent.

However, says TalentAlign senior consultant, Gail Sturgess, even companies who don't win can gain value from participation.

“Especially if companies don't win, they will get insight into what people practices need improving in their organisations, so the survey is almost more valuable to the companies who don't win,” she says.

The employee engagement survey used as a base for the CSSA 2010 search is an adaptation of Gallup Organisation's Q12 survey. Q12 functions to identify and measure elements of worker engagement most tied to the bottom line, and therefore provides a strong correlation between high scores and superior job performance.

“Since worker engagement is so important to the bottom line, it makes sense for companies to understand what they're not doing right so they can fix it,” says Sturgess.

According to Sturgess, the survey will cover areas around employer engagement, employee perceptions of job importance, employee clarity of job expectations, career advancement or improvement opportunities, regular feedback from superiors, quality of the employee's working relationship with peers, perception of ethos and values of the organisation, effective internal employee communications, and reward for engagement.

The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to fill in and run until 26 October. The top three companies will be invited to an awards breakfast on 3 November where the winner will be announced.
