The Southern African NGO Network (Sangonet) has crowned the 2010 winners of the South African NGO Web Awards.

The winning parties were announced on the first day of the NGO network's ICTs for Civil Society conference in Johannesburg, yesterday.

They were the University of the Witwatersrand Foundation, the Cancer Association of SA, and Habitat for Humanity SA. The winners received R10 000 worth of prizes sponsored by Torque IT.

With the theme of this year's conference being 'Fundraising in the Digital World', the competition served to recognise NGOs which excel in using their Web sites for online fundraising.

"The entries received for the 2010 competition, and the quality of the three winning Web sites, reflect the growing importance of online tools such as Web sites to the fundraising and resource mobilisation efforts of NGOs in SA," said David Barnard, Sangonet's executive director.
